How did HengMei Art come about?
“With furrowed brows, I coldly face a thousand pointing fingers; Bowing my head, I willingly serve as a humble ox for the children.”
This famous verse by Lu Xun, is the inspiration behind the pen names my father and I chose! I am Heng Mei (Furrowed Brows), and my father is Ru Niu (Humble Ox).
My father’s calligraphy is exceptional, so I decided to focus on painting.
My father has been an educator and a school principal for over thirty years. His talent and wisdom fill me with admiration and pride. He is entirely self-taught in music, his calligraphy—especially in kaishu (regular script)—is remarkable, and his powerful singing voice resonates throughout our home, leaving behind echoes that linger. The sound of his singing is truly unforgettable. I was like a little princess growing up in this warm and nurturing household.
Being raised in a scholarly family instilled in me a strong sense of discipline. I set high standards for myself, determined to excel in my studies and complete my university education. I worked hard, never gave up, and pursued my dreams relentlessly. Now, I will carry forward this sense of mission and courage as I follow my passion.
Thank you, my beloved father.
